Born on the British Peninsula of Gibraltar, Galliano grew up in London and studied fashion at St. Martus. His infamous 1984 degree collection, “Les Incroyables” was inspired b;y the French Revolution and with this Galliano caused his own revolution, and a new fashion Messiah was born.
He has been quoted as identifying his love of theatre and femininity as central to his creations – "my role is to seduce" he has said and went as far as recreating some of Dior's period clothing for Madonna in the film Evita. Galliano has reputedly cited Charlize Theron as a muse and has been creating couture dresses for her to wear to formal red carpet events such as the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
John Galliano designs a dozen collections a year and travels the globe to gain ideas for his beautiful collections by seeing, feeling, touching and tasting culture, objects, people and colour.

Whether he chooses to transform the Opéra Garnier in Paris into a party thrown by the Venetian socialite, Marchesa Luisa Casati, or the none-too salubrious platforms of Gare d’Austerlitz into a Moroccan souk - complete with guest appearance from a couture-clad Princess Pocohontas - Galliano never fails to convince.
His genius is his ability to communicate this through his clothes, shoes, handbags, fragrances and the runway shows that is his canvas for his creations.
