Achille Castiglioni (Milan, 1918-2002) was a renowned industrial designer. He was often inspired by everyday things and made use of ordinary materials. He uses the minimal amount of materials while creating forms with a maximum effect. This chair was designed after observing the way people in the East sit with an erect torso and without a backrest: in effect, sitting and kneeling at the same time. A rigid black shock-proof polystyrene base and an 18/8 stainless steel leg support the seat. The padded parts are in flexible polyurethane upholstered with leather or imitation leather. It is 47 cm high with a 58x80 cm base.the primate kneeling stool designed by achille castiglioni for zanotta in 1970. primate is an ergonomically correct half-sitting, half-kneeling stool constructed of a rigid polyurethane frame, a polystyrene base painted in black, flexible polyurethane upholstery and a 18/8 stainless steel leg.Castiglioni's method, to have "a constant and consistent way of designing, not a style" led him to help create new products to restore Italy's quality of life in the post-war years and to innovate upon the household object. Most of Castilglioni's products are design classics and are still in production under licence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achille_Castiglioni
